Stopped by Johnny's for lunch as I was in the mood for some pastrami. I ordered the pastrami dip (with cheese) and I was not disappointed. The pastrami was great, flavorful but not too fatty. The mustard and pickles were the perfect complement. The sandwich came with an option of potato salad or coleslaw. I went with the coleslaw. There was an additional pickle plate that came with the sandwich which was excellent. The outdoor seating was great for lunch.
Great stop for lunch! I loved the French dip pastrami sandwich. Soft bread with loads of thinly sliced pastrami meat. Not as salty as the pastrami at The Hat. I wish they dipped their bread in more jus though. If you're like me and like a wetter sandwich, be sure to order some extra jus. The half pastrami sandwich was also good. It came with thick slices of pastrami and the meat itself was excellent. I didn't like it as much though because the bread was so hard it injured my mouth. If you're familiar with Tartine bread, you'll know what to expect. Grilled cheese was surprisingly good! I guess it's hard to mess up a basic grilled cheese, but the one here was extra cheesy and delicious and I'd get it again. The ladies working at the ordering and pick up windows were super sweet and didn't make anyone feel rushed. Street parking can be tough to find, but it's doable. They have plenty of outdoor bench seating in a cute patio area.
Legit legit legit pastrami Reuben sandwich! I'm normally a corned beef kind of guy but I do have to say this was some of the best pastrami I've tasted. Tender. Flavorful. The fries are also fantastic. I'm not even talking about their signature specialty fries with pastrami on top. I just talking about their basic crinkle cut fries. They have a ton of outdoor seating. I mean a ton. We came on a Tuesday so there was plenty of space. I'm not sure what it's like on a Friday or Saturday. Judging by just the amount of seating, I'm guessing it must be pretty packed.
Came back! Really missed their pastrami! Still good their food! Same quality and taste! Really love and I been telling my friends the best pastrami in LA! Even with this heat their patio has big fan cooling down. Loved cool breeze and enjoyed eating there! Of course the cashier was super nice and friendly! There is water taps at the corner did not expect would be cold but it was very cool enough not needed ice. :) Next time wanna try hot dog!
After returning from vacation in New York, I felt disappointed, thinking I would never find a pastrami/brisket sandwich as good in LA. I searched and tried a few places, but they all let me down. But then I lucked out by finding this place. Holy crap! It's comparable to what I had in New York. I ordered the full pastrami brisket sandwich and, just for kicks, got an order of the burnt ends. The meat was 20/10 and completely satisfied my craving and exceeded way above my expectations. The only downside is the location. Parking is a hassle, and the neighborhood is a little questionable. Also, my pictures do not give this place the credibility it deserves.
I ordered takeout on the Holiday today and my order was ready at exactly the time promised . My steak was well done and silverware & napkins were inside the box without me asking. Only blemish was they forgot the normally standard lettuce & tomato for my sandwich.
Johnny's Pastrami offers delicious burgers, sandwiches and sides , but what makes it extra fun is the outdoor seating and bar! It 's a fun space to gather with a large crowd - lots of shareable sides (chicken tenders, onion rings, fries). The Johnny's fries were delicious - comes loaded with cheese, pastrami bites, and their special sauce. The citrus and thai basil drink was so light and refreshing and helped with the greasiness of the food.
Ayo! Ok I'm back at another review Yelp Fam! Question? Why in the Hell did it take me so long to come to Johnnys?!? The pastrami is one of the best here in LA. I ordered the half Rueben Sammie and let me tell you, BaeBey! Dis right here was 10's across the board. Thick cuts of juicy moist succulent pastrami that had a hint of smokiness and some fat marbled into it was so good. The russian dressing, melted cheese and coleslaw on marbled rye bread all worked so well together. I ordered the potato salad as a side which was Mid. Don't forget to ask for the house made pickles and peppers. The other star of the moment was the Banana Cream Pie with Caramel sauce and toasted almonds with a flaky buttery crust. You can not leave without this. Plenty of outdoor seating. Street and paid parking lot is avail. Come check this place out!
